Human Rights Center "Viasna"

The Human Rights Center Viasna is a non-government human rights organization that was created in 1996 during mass protests led by the democratic opposition in Belarus. The organization is founded on the principle of respect for human rights and its main goal is to contribute to the development of civil society in Belarus. Viasna monitors government compliance with international human rights standards and agreements and conducts research on the state of civil society and rule of law in Belarus. Its findings are published and shared with government officials and non-government organizations with the aim of improving implementation of human rights guidelines. The group conducts civic and human rights education, including through seminars, conferences, lectures, and round-table discussions for its members and different segments of the population.
